August 29, 2019

This 2019 Colombia will host the great World Maritime Summit event that will be held in Cartagena de Indias from September 15 to 17, under the World Maritime Day, under the slogan “Empowering women in the Maritime Community” .

“Empowering women in the Maritime Community” is a motto that will serve to remember gender equality, and highlight the importance of women in the Colombian maritime sector and in other regions of the world.

Why was Colombia chosen? For its continuous efforts in the implementation of international standards, among other things.

The maritime potential of Colombia made the International Maritime Organization (IMO) distinguish it as the venue for the event parallel to the 2019 World Maritime Day Celebration.

Since 2013 Colombia was designated by the United Nations – International Maritime Organization (IMO), as the venue of the Parallel Event to the Celebration of the World Maritime Day of 2019.

On this occasion, the event will be conducive for IMO Member Governments and the maritime industry sectors to promote water safety, protection of the marine environment, and the ease of international maritime transport.

Meanwhile, Colombia will be able to connect with the ARC-Dimar, improve maritime practices in international waters, identify scenarios that project it with developed countries in the maritime context, and host other possible technical meetings in the Latin American region , regional cooperation networks of Central America and the Caribbean for the fulfillment of maritime obligations; as well as a meeting of the Latin American Network of Maritime Women.

The meeting will be attended by 174 states with their respective delegations. All guests are allies, and you are related to the economic, social and cultural interests of Colombia.
