WISTA UK represents WISTA International at Canada House

WISTA International represented by WISTA UK President and Secretary,  attended a meeting last week along with members of IMOGEN , discussing the issues facing the attraction and retention of women in maritime and what can IMO and members states do to assist in increasing the numbers.

The event began with a welcome by Michelle Toering Sanders, Alternate Permanent representative of Canada to the IMO, and continued with intensive group discussion on lack of visibility of the sector, issues regarding glass ceilings, appropriate PPE, awareness of alternate careers once you come ashore, lack of mentors for female seafarers, harassment on board, bullying and mental health.
