Lena Göthberg receives honorary award

June 15, 2020

Maritime communication professional Lena Göthberg – a well-known profile of the Swedish shipping industry and not least of WISTA – has been awarded the 2020 Honorary Reward by the Swedish maritime foundation Stiftelsen Sveriges Sjömanshus.

The foundation grants Lena Göthberg the Honorary Reward ”to show our appreciation for her extensive efforts in the maritime field. Not least for the knowledge she spreads through her podcast and her many years of devoted commitment to WISTA”.

“It is an honour and pleasure to get attention for my work, which is to spread the good word about shipping and all who work with shipping. It is also great that the foundation recognises the Shipping Podcast”, says Lena Göthberg in a comment to the Swedish Shipping Gazette.

Lena Göthberg began her maritime career as an insurance broker in the 1990s and later went on to focusing on maritime communication through her own company GIGS by Lena G. She was the President of WISTA Sweden 2004–2008 and is now the Communication and Support Officer of WISTA International.

She is the first female recipient of the foundation’s Honorary Reward, and she is also the first woman to lead the 150 years old association the Nautical Society.

Stiftelsen Sveriges Sjömanshus is a foundation created in 1972 for ”the benefit and avail of seafarers” as stated in the statutes issued by His Royal Majesty the King. The foundation grants sizeable yearly funds to maritime research, rewards for individual innovation and efforts, sea rescue operations etc.
