WISTA Venezuela participates in Coastal Cleanup Initiative
September 13, 2025
The Venezuelan chapter of the Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA Venezuela) recently demonstrated its commitment to environmental stewardship by successfully and actively participating in a significant beach cleanup initiative at Puerto Cabello, State of Carabobo.
The event, held on September 13th, drew a strong turnout of members, volunteers, and partners from across the maritime community, all united by the common goal of protecting Venezuela’s valuable coastal ecosystems.
As an organization dedicated to empowering women in the typically male-dominated maritime industry, WISTA Venezuela extends its focus beyond professional development to address crucial issues affecting the seas and coastlines on which the industry depends.
“This cleanup is a tangible way for our members to contribute to marine sustainability and raise public awareness about the devastating impact of plastic pollution on our beaches and marine life” stated Julia Alvarez, the leader of this project and member of WISTA Venezuela.
The volunteers spent the morning collecting various forms of solid waste, with a particular emphasis on plastics, which pose the greatest threat to the ocean.
The initiative is part of WISTA Venezuela’s ongoing efforts to promote the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those related to climate action and life below water. The association plans to continue supporting these hands-on environmental activities, reinforcing the maritime community’s responsibility to protect the oceans.
