WISTA Spain to host its 2023 AGM and Conference in Algeciras

The event will take place under the theme “Strait of Gibraltar, Bridge of Cooperation”.
On May 12th and 13th, Algeciras will host the “Annual General Assembly (AGM) and Conference” of WISTA Spain, an association with over 140 members that is part of WISTA International (Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association) since 2007 and which brings together professional women working in all areas of the maritime business, promoting its objectives and activities, and encouraging interest, support, and membership.
The Conference will be inaugurated on Friday, May 12th, under the theme “Strait of Gibraltar, Bridge of Cooperation” by the Chairman of the Port Authority of the Algeciras Bay, Mr. Gerardo Landaluce, the President of WISTA Spain, Ms. Rosana Velasco, and the Mayor of the City of Algeciras, Mr. José Ignacio Landaluce. The closing ceremony will feature Mr. Víctor Jiménez, Chairman of the Council of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), and Mr. Benito Núñez Quintanilla, Director-General of the Spain Merchant Marine.
The event program will include roundtables addressing various aspects of cooperation between Spain and Morocco in the maritime-port and foreign trade sectors:
· Building Bridges: An Insightful Analysis of Bilateral Relations and Cooperation between Spain and Morocco.
· A case of Success: The Extraordinary Accomplishments of Operation Crossing the Strait.”
· The Gateway to Global Trade: Exploring the Growth and Transformation of Traffic in the Strait of Gibraltar.
This Conference will feature the participation of the Port of Algeciras Bay, Tanger Med Port, and the Port of Ceuta. In addition, speakers from companies and organizations operating in the Strait of Gibraltar area or closely linked to it will be present, such as Algeciras Maritime Border Post, Aragón Logistics Platform, Calsina Carré, FRS Iberia Group, Rail&Truck Strait Union, Spain’s Chamber of Commerce in Morocco, Spanish Economic and Trade Office in Morocco and Renault.
The event, supported by numerous sponsors and collaborators, will provide a unique opportunity to foster dialogue among industry professionals who can continue exchanging experiences during the cocktail reception offered at the end of the Conferences. Following lunch, a boat visit to the Port of Algeciras Bay is planned.
