WISTA Hellas April Members’ Gathering

On Wednesday, April 30th, WISTA Hellas held its April Members’ Gathering at the premises of Watson Farley & Williams – Greece, bringing together members for an engaging and insightful evening. The event featured a panel discussion on “Professional Development Opportunities Through Life-Long Learning”, a topic that ranked first in our recent members’ poll, underlining its significance within our community.

Reflecting this strong interest, the panel included WISTA Hellas members who originally proposed the topic. They shared their experiences and perspectives on how continuous education and skills enhancement can empower professionals at every stage of their careers. We were honored to welcome as speakers Dr Joanna-Eugenia Bakouni (Maersk Training / Lloyd’s Maritime Academy), Marsila Karpida (Watson Farley & Williams), and Aya Mohamed (Dynagas Ltd.), with the discussion moderated by Dr. Iliana Christodoulou Varotsi, Senior Legal Consultant and Lead Industry Trainer.

The evening highlighted the value of life-long learning in the shipping industry and beyond and reaffirmed WISTA Hellas’ ongoing commitment to supporting its members’ growth, education, and professional development. A key pillar of this commitment has been our scholarship program, launched in 2007, which continues to run for the current academic year. Through this initiative, WISTA Hellas supports women in the maritime sector who seek to advance their academic and professional goals, reflecting our long-standing and tangible support for life-long learning in practice, not just in principle.
