Welcome To WISTA Poland

WISTA Poland, the Association of Women in Maritime and Trade, is part of the international organization WISTA International, which was founded in the United Kingdom in 1974 and currently unites women from 45 countries around the world. The mission of WISTA is to foster networking, expand knowledge, exchange experiences, and support initiatives related to maritime affairs, trade, and transport. WISTA International cooperates with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) as an official consultative body.

In Poland, interest in WISTA emerged in 1993, and a year later the national representation participated in an international conference in Rapallo. The official registration of the association took place in 2013, when it was entered into the National Court Register, making WISTA Poland a fully recognized organization operating in the country and part of WISTA International.

The members of WISTA Poland represent a wide range of companies and professions related to the maritime economy. Among them are merchant navy officers, engineers, mediators, academics, and representatives of many other fields. The association supports women in this male-dominated sector by promoting their achievements and striving to increase their participation in the maritime industry.

WISTA Poland works to expand the professional knowledge of its members by organizing national and international conferences, seminars, and site visits to selected companies and institutions. The association also engages in mentoring, supporting younger colleagues in career development. It collaborates with various industry associations and other women’s organizations, sharing experiences and promoting maritime economy. In addition, WISTA Poland conducts outreach activities aimed at school and university students, encouraging them to pursue careers in the maritime sector through community campaigns, literary contests, and cooperation with foundations such as the Ocean of Dreams Foundation.

The association regularly organizes and participates in events promoting the role of women in the maritime economy. One example is the co-organization of the “RE-FORM THE NORM!” exhibition at the European Solidarity Centre in Gda?sk, dedicated to women working in the maritime industry. WISTA Poland is also actively involved in celebrating the International Day for Women in Maritime, cooperating with the IMO and other organizations such as the Association of Master Mariners. Additionally, members of WISTA Poland attend industry conferences like BALTEXPO and support initiatives promoting gender equality in the maritime sector.

WISTA Poland plays a key role in promoting and supporting women in the maritime industry in Poland. Through a variety of initiatives, events, and collaborations with both national and international organizations, the association contributes to increasing the presence and influence of women in the maritime sector, striving for gender equality and the professional growth of its members.
