International Women’s Day Aboard the BAP Unión
On March 8th, in celebration of International Women’s Day, we had the honor of visiting the BAP Unión, Latin America’s largest training ship and one of the world’s most imposing sailing vessels.
This majestic ship fulfills a fundamental mission in training Peruvian Navy officers, promoting maritime culture, representing the country in various ports worldwide, and contributing to the advancement of foreign trade and Peru’s image in the international maritime sphere.
Alongside our WISTA Peru members, we had an unforgettable experience, gaining a close-up look at the history, mission, and invaluable work carried out by this emblematic vessel, a symbol of Peruvian naval pride.
Special thanks to the Peruvian Navy for all the arrangements, to Maria Cristina Escalante Melchiors and Patricia Saco from the Social Responsibility Committee, to the Maritime Practice Area, as well as to our WISTA PERU Board of Directors led by Mariela Gutarra, who made this gathering possible. 28 members came together to reflect on the role of women in the maritime sector and reaffirm our commitment to inclusion, female leadership, and equal opportunities.
Today, more than ever, we celebrate the women who are making their mark in the maritime, port, and logistics industries. Let’s continue working together to foster talent, diversity, and the growth of our community!
