Guide to Addressing Harassment in the Maritime Sector Launched in Brasília
March 26, 2024
On March 26, the Guide to Addressing Harassment in the Maritime Sector was launched at the headquarters of the National Agency for Waterway Transportation (ANTAQ) in Brasília. The Guide is the result of a collaboration between the Ministry of Ports and Airports (MPor), WISTA Brazil, and the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB).
Flávia Takafashi, Director at ANTAQ and a WISTA member, began her speech by noting that the development and launch of the guide align with the Agency’s mission to “ensure that society receives adequate waterway transportation services and the exploration of Brazilian port infrastructure.”
The ceremony was attended by Wisters from across Brazil, highlighting the power and engagement of the association. The event was also graced by the presence of Ministers Silvio Costa Filho (Ports and Airports) and Simone Tebet (Planning).
The Guide is a manual of best practices aimed at fostering an increasingly harassment-free environment, strengthening the maritime sector, and driving the country’s growth. In addition to being a crucial tool in combating harassment, the guide will be integrated as an essential part of discussions in both the public sector and private companies, reinforcing the commitment to a culture of respect and equality.
