The Washington State Ferry (WSF) a Division of the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is seeking a Director of Vessel Engineering & Maintenance to serve as a member of WSF’s executive team and provide direction for vessel operations, maintenance, preservation, vessel design, and capital vessel construction program. This position develops and implements policies, procedures, and standards to provide, safe, reliable, and efficient marine transportation. Responsibilities include workforce development for vessel engine crew and vessel support staff, asset management (maintenance, preservation, and improvements), technical and fiscal oversight, strategic and long-range planning and oversight of WSF’s Eagle Harbor Maintenance Facility on Bainbridge Island. In line with the WSDOT strategic plan goal of inclusion, this position needs to focus on improving the culture and diversity of the Vessel Engineering department. The position impacts system-wide safety with ultimate responsibility for providing safe and reliable vessels and terminals for the transportation of 17 million passengers and nearly 9 million vehicles annually. Primary focus areas are policy development, capital program management, maintenance program oversight, workforce development, recruitment, and resource management.
