The Washington State Ferry (WSF) a Division of  the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is seeking a Director of Safety Systems to serve as the principal executive with overall responsibility for Washington State Ferries safety, risk, security, emergency management, workforce development and training and document control (which includes Safety Management System (SMS) and coordination of Public Disclosure Requests). WSDOT is looking for a strong leader with experience managing diverse functions to provide leadership and direction at the corporate level for a diverse team of safety, security, risk, and training professionals. The position establishes accountabilities and expectations of the professional staff necessary to achieve a progressive and proactive organization following state, national, and industry best practices and ensures the alignment for all SMS issues and initiatives with strategic goals and objectives. This position advises the Assistant Secretary on high-level safety and security risks, threats, and mitigation strategies that protect WSDOT assets. Acts as the primary point of contact for WSF’s primary regulatory agency, the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG). The position manages all WSF’s training functions, to ensure compliance with USCG and other requirements, and workforce retention and development..
