What does this role look like?  

Responsible for facilitating the development and implementation of a sustainability strategy across the organization to meet Crowley’s Sustainability goals.

Some of your main responsibilities will be:

  • Develops the corporate strategy for embedding sustainability into business unit operations
  • Facilitates the corporate sustainability materiality assessment process
  • Leads and guides business units in developing and implementing plans to address their most pressing sustainability issues
  • Coordinates risk identification and assessment for enterprise-wide sustainability issues
  • Represents the organization in internationally recognized sustainability and environmental forums and workgroups
  • Supports and represents Crowley on various industry associations in addressing sector-wide sustainability and environmental issues
  • Prepares and publishes Crowley’s sustainability performance data for internal and external customers
  • Oversees the development of enterprise-wide (Tier I) management system standards for environmental performance
  • Provides environmental and sustainability subject matter expertise to business units
  • Provides recommendations to business unit leaders on the evaluation of risks and liabilities associated with new or existing projects, or acquisitions
  • Oversees the management of legacy contaminated sites in various locations throughout the U.S. to include direct oversight of the third-party environmental consultants and legal counsel supporting site remediation efforts
  • May supervise

Qualifications 

Must-haves:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences-policy or sustainability management & Graduate degree in environmental sciences-policy, sustainability management, or business administration. 
  • At least eight to ten years of experience with and demonstrated success in implementing sustainability strategies and overseeing environmental management.
  • Experience in the transportation and/or logistics industry ideal.

Nice-to-haves: 

  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Teams and SharePoint.

What an average day looks like:

  • You communicate effectively verbally and in writing, including conveying technical information to technical and non-technical users.
  • You will meet the diverse needs of business units on sustainability reporting to include emission reductions goals, and other waste reduction targets as established by the corporation.
  • You manage environmental initiatives that impact multiple operating units and the development of enterprise-wide standards for environmental performance. 
  • You serve as the corporate representative for environmental and sustainability policy engagement at the international, national and local levels.
    You lead research and stays current on emerging laws, regulations and policy that impacts Crowley’s business units, and that may also present business opportunities. 
  • You support Crowley business units in developing and implementing revenue-generating projects, to include analysis of the environmental risks and liabilities associated with potential business opportunities.
  • You oversee management of legacy corporate contaminated sites to include serving as primary liaison officer to Federal and State agencies, environmental consultants, and retained legal counsel to effectively and efficiently manage remediation. 
  • You advise Crowley Legal Counsel as directed to support environmental and sustainability-based litigation efforts across entire organization.
  • You prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously while meeting assigned deadlines.
  • You work independently supporting team members from various disciplines.
  • You effectively manage projects that may vary in nature and scope.
  • You identify complex problems and review related information to develop, evaluate and implement solutions.
  • You provide guidance for assistance and coaching with process procedures, quality review and maintenance of tier one and tier two templates.
  • You function effectively with, or as part of a team.
  • You interface business applications with other business systems.
  • You prepare clear and concise reports, policies, procedures, correspondences and other written materials.
  • You identify complex problems and review related information to develop, evaluate and implement solutions.
  • You demonstrate knowledgeable in OSHA and ISO standards.

Working Conditions
Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature and the like. Extended use of a computer keyboard, viewing of a computer monitor and the ability to sit for long periods of time.
