The Sr. Marine Terminal Technical Manager will be a crucial part of Air Products’ business strategy by supporting the development of safe and reliable, renewable ammonia and hydrogen import / export Marine Terminals, which is a new dimension to Air Products’ business. Air Products and our partners will build, operate, and maintain Marine Terminals at various global locations, including jetties, loading and unloading infrastructure, and large liquefied gas storage systems. Your principal accountability is to oversee and direct various aspects of global marine terminal engineering, design, safety, operability, and construction, through full implementation and handover to the Air Products’ Operations team. You will advise on technical specifications, design basis, safety, and guide our partners and other third parties who may have responsibilities for portions of the project(s). The successful candidate will leverage expertise and experience from past terminal engineering, design, and construction projects, or have similar experience operating marine terminals. Specific experience should be with industrial gas terminals (i.e., LPG, LNG, or ammonia). A keen focus on safety is extremely important for this role. It is imperative that Air Products’ safety culture is fully embedded in every aspect of our terminals’ design and operations.
Dimensions:
- Reports to the Chief Engineer
- Located in TBC (could be located in Allentown, Houston, Hersham, or The Hague)
- Workspace is primarily office based, with significant travel to various Air Products offices and terminal locations
- Travel internationally, approximately 20%
- Regions Supported: Global
Principal accountabilities
This position is accountable for:
- Oversight and direction of all engineering activities associated with marine terminal interfaces
- Develop and maintain design methods and technical specifications for jetty, liquefied gas loading / unloading systems, and associated maritime requirements (e.g., size and payload of ships, loading / unloading process requirements, and operations)
- During project development, establish strategies for all phases of Engineering and Design
- Define scopes of work for external engineering firms and / or consultants, develop tender packages, and evaluate and qualify bidders
- During the Engineering Procurement and Construction phase, oversee work of, and review deliverables prepared by external parties tasked with marine terminal related work
- Establish and implement Best Practices for marine design and execution across the portfolio of projects, ensuring proper communication to individual project teams
- Assess any JV, strategic partners’, or other third parties’ scope to ensure alignment
- Ensure effective technical coordination between Air Products and other stakeholders
- Ensure effective coordination with the Air Products shipping taskforce to ensure terminal jetties comply with shipping vessel(s) technical and logistical requirements
- Follow change management procedures
- Support marine P&ID development through design input and active participation in HAZOP and operability reviews
- Ensure that Lessons Learned and appropriate corrective actions related to the engineering and design are clearly identified, recorded, communicated, and implemented to both existing and future projects
- Maintain a safe work environment and support corporate and organizational safety goals across all aspects of the work
Job requirements
- BS or MS in Engineering, preferably from a recognized Maritime Institution
- Able to travel freely to any global location without restriction or visa complications, and obtain the appropriate credentials to enter any international port area when required (e.g., TWIC for US)
- 7 to 10 years direct industry experience associated with marine terminal engineering, design, safety, construction, commissioning, and operations
- Direct engineering experience with industrial gases and associated processes, storage, and handling (direct experience with ammonia and hydrogen products strongly preferred).
- Knowledge of the applicable industry codes, regulations, and standards of the various global regions
- Knowledge and direct experience with Maritime Logistics and Security
- Strong safety focus with demonstrated flawless safety performance
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other IT-based business systems, including tele- / video conferencing programs (i.e., Zoom, Microsoft Teams)
- Ability to lead, advise, make definitive technical decisions, and communicate with cross-functional technical and non-technical teams
- Ability to effectively translate and communicate technical concepts in a high-level conceptual manner, and integrate scope focus into broader operations
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability / willingness to collaborate with diverse groups of people (multiple ethnic / cultural / geographical); Will require significant communication with colleagues in different countries
- Be self-managed, motivated by success / excellence
- Ability to work within a highly dynamic, constantly changing environment, bringing clarity in uncertainty
- English language proficiency (written and verbal) is required
- Maintain flexibility working hours to accommodate global time zones
