WISTA USA – NOLA -Tour Sector New Orleans Vessel Traffic Services (VTS)

As discussed in our February kick-off, Jeanne Amy has arranged for us to take a tour of the VTS (200 Hendee Street, New Orleans, LA 70114)  on Friday, April 3, at 10:00 am.   For those of you who may be unfamiliar, the VTS is located  at the USCG Sector New Orleans headquarters.  VTS Lower Mississippi River manages vessel traffic on one of the most hazardous waterways in the United States.  VTS Lower Mississippi’s area of responsibility spans from 20 miles above the Port of Baton Rouge (Mile 255 above the Head of the Passes) to 12 miles offshore of Southwest Pass Light in the Gulf of Mexico.  VTS provides advisory and navigational assistance services at all times with a workforce of highly trained and experienced civilian Coast Guard personnel with the assistance of pilot advisors.
