WISTA South Africa

  • Reformed in 2019, WISTA South Africa is a dynamic network of women leaders shaping the future of the maritime, shipping, trading, logistics and related industries across South Africa. Our members represent the Public, Private and Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) sectors, bringing together a powerful community of professionals united by a shared vision: a more inclusive, connected and progressive maritime industry.

At its core, WISTA South Africa exists to create meaningful impact — for its members, for the industry, and for the next generation of maritime leaders. Through collaboration, mentorship, education and advocacy, we strive to foster opportunities that empower women while strengthening the sector as a whole.

WISTA South Africa is committed to driving positive change through a number of key initiatives:

    • Creating opportunities for meaningful connection, collaboration and the exchange of industry knowledge amongst members.
    • Championing mentorship and development opportunities for emerging maritime professionals.
    • Advancing diversity, equity and inclusion within the maritime and logistics sectors.
    • Supporting leadership development for both women and men across the industry.
    • Encouraging continuous learning, professional growth and networking opportunities.
    • Serving as a platform for conversations and knowledge-sharing around inclusivity and transformation in the workplace.
    • Collaborating with industry stakeholders, professional bodies and government institutions to amplify the voice of women in maritime.
WISTA South Africa is led by Berenice Fillmore, General Manager of IQS International, alongside an accomplished leadership team comprising: Hermoine Manuel — Managing Director at Damen Shipyards; Anisa Govender — Director at Livingston Leandy; Vanessa Naidoo — Treasurer; Lulama Mthembu — Senior Manager at South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) and; Leigh-Anne Kriel — Attorney and Event Organiser. Together, the leadership team is passionate about building a thriving and inclusive maritime community that inspires connection, drives transformation and creates lasting impact within South Africa and beyond.
