Accelerate with HER in Mind: WISTA drives for a worthy Cause

Colombo, March 15, 2025 – The Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA) Sri Lanka celebrated International Women’s Day 2025 with an exhilarating car rally, bringing together drivers, navigators, and passengers for an unforgettable journey through Colombo and its suburbs. The event, themed “Accelerate with HER in Mind,” was more than just a race—it was a powerful statement of collaboration of men and women coming together to support underprivileged women with period poverty.
This event was organized with the professional expertise of the Ceylon Motor Sports Club, ensuring a seamless and thrilling experience for all participants.
The rally commenced at 1:00 p.m. from Battaramulla, sending teams on a 70-kilometer adventure guided by a state-of-the-art app that directed them to designated checkpoints, where they completed various challenges. The race concluded in Colombo, with winners determined by their ability to complete tasks efficiently, adhere to instructions, and navigate the course with precision.
Beyond the thrill of competition, the rally carried a deeper purpose. A portion of the event’s proceeds will be dedicated to providing essential menstrual hygiene products to women in rural communities, addressing the pressing issue of period poverty.
The celebrations continued into the evening with an exclusive sundown party at The Kingsbury Hotel’s lawn, where participants relaxed and networked over music, gourmet cuisine, and refreshing drinks. The top 10 teams were awarded with exciting prizes, making the event both rewarding and competitive.
The overwhelming participation and enthusiasm demonstrated by all who took part in the Car Rally showcased the collective commitment to empowering women while fostering teamwork, camaraderie, and social impact.
