Women at Sea – Time to Reform the Norms!
March 29, 2025
WISTA Poland, together with the INSPIRA Association of Women in the Maritime Industry, has proudly co-patroned the exhibition “RE-FORM THE NORM!”, dedicated to women working in the maritime sector. The exhibition, on display at the European Solidarity Centre from March 12, 2025, highlights the issue of ill-fitting protective clothing designed based on male standards. Created under the EU RE-WIRING program in cooperation with the University of Gda?sk, the project explores how properly designed workwear impacts women’s safety, comfort, and dignity at work. The exhibition was brought to life by a team of female experts, including clothing designer Aneta Bursiewicz, curator Aneta Lehmann, women’s history researcher Anna Miler, and photographer Daria Szczygie?. The initiative was also supported by representatives from the University of Gda?sk and the European Solidarity Centre. The main goal is to raise awareness about inequalities faced by women in technical and industrial professions. During the opening ceremony, WISTA Poland emphasized its ongoing commitment to gender equality in the maritime economy. This exhibition is a strong voice advocating for better work conditions and the need to adapt industry standards to women’s real needs. “RE-FORM THE NORM!” is open to the public until April 14, 2025, in the ECS winter garden – admission is free.
