Women Leading the Maritime Industry: Special WISTA LATAM Edition in MG News

WISTA Venezuela, WISTA Colombia, WISTA Argentina, WISTA Uruguay, WISTA Dominican Republic and WISTA Peru are proud to present their Special Edition Magazine together with MG News dedicated to WISTA LATAM, a celebration of female leadership in the maritime industry. This special issue brings together six WISTA Associations and over 30 influential women from across the region, who share their experiences, knowledge, and visions for the future of the sector.
In honor of WISTA International’s 50th Anniversary, this edition offers readers a wide variety of articles covering key topics such as:
- Success stories: Profiles of women who have reached leadership positions in maritime and logistics companies.
- Challenges and opportunities: Analysis of the challenges faced by women in the industry and strategies to overcome them.
- Diversity and inclusion: Reflections on the importance of fostering gender diversity and inclusion in the industry.
“From a young age, I was captivated by the dynamic world of the maritime industry, which led me to dedicate my career to exploring every facet of this sector. My education in engineering and management has equipped me with analytical and strategic skills that have allowed me to excel in the areas of ship management and maritime operations. As a female leader in this field, I am committed to driving diversity and inclusion in the industry, inspiring other women to reach their full potential” stated Mercedes Mejia, a key leader at Atlas Marine Group.
This special edition is a testament to the growing role of women in the maritime industry and a call to continue working to achieve greater gender equality in the sector.
Ana Mary Ramirez sent an extraordinary message “To all women, I tell them: focus on your natural abilities such as organization, empathy, perseverance, adaptability, and problem-solving. Strengthen your emotional intelligence and learn about leadership and tools that improve your professionalism and time management. It’s all about setting a plan, goals, and always maintaining a positive attitude, taking advantage of the opportunities that arise.”
